A good bathroom is light, calm and easy to keep clean.
Bathrooms are small rooms with a lot of trades in them, which makes them expensive per square foot and very sensitive to planning. Here is where value comes from, and what a remodel costs on the Peninsula.

What it costs
Finish level sets the range.
For a bathroom of about 100 square feet in Rancho Palos Verdes, our estimator gives $37k–$94k at a standard finish, $43k–$111k at premium and $58k–$149k at luxury. Moving the toilet or shower drain, adding a window, or rebuilding a floor adds to any of these.
At resale, buyers notice bathrooms. A remodel rarely returns every dollar, but a dated or failing bathroom is one of the first things that costs a sale; a sound, well-planned one simply removes the objection.

Ideas that last
Spend on what you use every day.
The changes that make the biggest difference are rarely the decorative ones. A curbless walk-in shower with a linear drain is easier to use at any age. Good ventilation that actually clears steam protects every finish in the room. Heated floors, a window or skylight for daylight, and storage that keeps counters clear do more for a bathroom than an expensive faucet.
Near the coast, choose fixtures and fans rated for humidity, and grout and sealers that resist the damp.

- Curbless shower with a linear drain
- Quiet, properly ducted ventilation
- DaylightA window or skylight where the layout allows
- Large-format tile for fewer grout lines
Common questions
Bathroom remodel questions
Which bathroom should I remodel first?
The one you use most, usually the primary bathroom. If you plan to sell soon, fix anything that looks failing (leaks, soft floors, poor ventilation) before anything cosmetic.
How long does it take?
Construction for one bathroom often runs a few weeks once materials are on site. Ordering tile, glass and fixtures early keeps the room out of use for less time.
How firm are these figures?
Figures are planning ranges from our cost estimator (2024 Southern California base rates, adjusted for each city and finish level). They are not a bid; a site visit and drawings set the real number.
